The inaugural ceremony was attended by PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Hunsen, along with former Party General Secretary Lê Khả Phiêu, former State President Lê Đức Anh and senior Vietnamese and Cambodian officials.

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Hunsen recalled the difficulties Brigade 125 faced in the early days.

As soon as it was established, the KNUFNS coordinated with Vietnamese voluntary soldiers in a glorious feat of arms to rescue Cambodia from the genocide, he said.

PM Dũng highlighted the significance of the January 7, 1979 victory for Cambodia's existence and subsequent development.

The victory opened a new chapter for Việt Nam-Cambodia cooperation and development, he said.

The Government leader said the historical site represents the patriotism of PM Hunsen and the Cambodian soldiers, as well as the mutual affection between the two nations.

On the same day, the two PMs also laid wreaths in tribute to 34 fallen Cambodian soldiers.
